If you’re looking for a vacation destination featuring sun-soaked beaches, you need to consider going to Phuket Island. As Thailand’s biggest island, Phuket is a haven for tourists that many flock to each year to relax and enjoy the scenery.

Two of the most popular beaches on Phuket Island are Hat Patong and Hat Karon. Hat Patong is 1.9 miles in length and is located near some of the island’s most famous nightlife destinations. With breathtaking views of the sea, Hat Karon is another place to consider visiting. Just across the street from some popular restaurants, you can grab a bite to eat after a stroll on the sand.

Arriving at Phuket Airport is how most tourists reach the island. With tourism being such a major part of the island’s economy, the airport is undergoing an expansion that is set to be completed in 2015.

Though there are numerous hotels located on the island, you should always make reservations before your arrival. Being such a popular destination, a hotel in Phuket can be difficult to rent a room from without a reservation.

One place you may want to consider as a lodging option is the Avista Phuket Resort and Spa. Featuring an elegant restaurant, a swimming pool with views of the ocean, and a spa with ancient Thai relaxation practices, you are sure to find what you are looking for at this resort. The pool bar alone is something that gets tourists talking and recommending this resort to all of their friends who are considering a trip to Phuket.

There are plenty of attractions in Phuket besides the beaches. If you are looking for a break from lounging on the beach all day, the Thalang National Museum will give you an idea of what life was like before tourism became a substantial part of the island’s economy. The museum also has informative exhibits regarding the Phuket’s war with Burma.

If you are going to take a trip to Phuket, you may want to plan your trip so that you can experience one of the many celebrations throughout the year. The Vegetarian Festival occurs every fall to celebrate the islanders of Chinese descent who practice a vegetarian diet for nine days as a way of purifying themselves. Even if you are not a vegetarian yourself, the festival still is a way to have fun and enjoy the culture.

The Phuket Travel Fair takes place each November and is an event many tourists enjoy. Among the parades and other celebrations, this fair hosts a beauty contest for the tourists in attendance.

Be sure to try the local cuisine when visiting Phuket. Foods on the island contain a variety of different ingredients that typically center around rice, pork, and pastas. Koit Diaow Rueah, known to tourists as “Boat Soup,” is a popular stew made with noodles and buffalo meat.

Before leaving the island, try to determine if you have accomplished all that you wanted on your vacation. You should have a list containing everything that you want to see during your time on Phuket Island.
