Phuket is famous for it beaches, Phuket resorts and hotels. There are also many attractions and festivals in Phuket. Below some of them are mentioned:

Two Heroines Monument (Monument to Thao Thep Kasattri and Thao Sri Sunthon)

In 1785 Phuket was attacked by the Burmese. Before the attack the Phuket’s Administration was warned about the approaching Burmese by the British colonel. Because the island’s governors had just died, the defense of the island was prepared by his widow and her sister. The two women quickly organized some defenses and disguised other women as soldiers to appear to the Burmese as a stronger force.

After one month siege the exhausted Burmese retreated. King Rama I awarded the women royal titles of Thao Thep Kasattri and Thao Sri Sunthon and the two women became local heroines.

Thalang National Museum

The museum was established in 1985 on the 200th anniversary of the Thalang War. Ancient artifacts and the exhibition of life in the old Phuket can be seen in the museum, which is located nearby the Two Heroines Monument.

Patong Beach (Hat Patong )

The Patong Beach is the most popular beach in Phuket. It is full of different tourist attractions, hotels, resorts, restaurants and nightclubs. It is located 15 kilometers from the Phuket town. At daytime Patong’s beach is usually full of swimming and sunbathing people. There are also many people who play different water sports.

At nighttime Patong is famous for its nightlife which center is Soi Bangla. Patong is also a very good place for shopping where many cheap clothes and souvenirs can be bought.

If you want to view beautiful sunset in Phuket you should go to the northern end of Patong Bay, called Kalim.

Karon Beach

The Karon Beach is the second biggest beach in Phuket, located 20 kilometers from the Phuket town. The beach is broad and has white sand without any development on the beach. There are restaurants and tourist shops across the street from the Karon beach.

The beautiful coral reef can be seen at the southern point of the beach, where it stretches toward Kata and Bu Island.

Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Conservation Development and Extension Centre

The environment is studied there, with the goal of promoting and distributing wildlife in Khao Phra Thaeo Wildlife Park. There are some wild animals in the park and virgin forest can be seen there.

There are also some interesting festivals in Phuket

Vegetarian Festival

The most famous vegetarian festival in Thailand is held in Phuket on the first day of the 9th lunar month, which usually is at the end of September or early October. During the festival many people in Thailand (especially Thais of Chinese ancestry) become vegetarians, or actually vegans. Displays of fire walking and ascending sharp-bladed ladders are performed by some ascetics during the festival too.

Chao Le (Sea Gypsy) Boat Floating Festival

This festival is usually held during the middle of the sixth and eleventh lunar months. Sea gypsies from different villages hold their ceremonies on different days. The ceremonies are similar to Thai Loy Krathong festival and the goal is similar too – to bring good luck and drive away evil.

The Phuket Zoo

There are many interesting places to visit in Phuket and one of them is the Phuket Zoo.

Phuket Zoo

The Phuket Zoo is located near the north end of Chalong Bay (some of the Phuket hotels are located there too),  and although it is quite small (it occupies the area of about 5 hectares), it is very interesting and nice place to spend some time, especially for families. The zoo was opened in 1997 and it is a private zoo, not supported by the government of Thailand.

It is a place full of beautiful tropical gardens and giant tropical trees. It is a different type of a zoo that you might be used to. It is fun to just stroll there, moving from one island to another over the bridges and under beautiful trees and watching all kinds of interesting animals.

Animal Shows

There are also exciting animal shows, like monkey, crocodile and elephant shows. The crocodile show is especially exciting, but it might be too nervous for you. The crocodiles are animals that can never be one hundred percent tamed, and every crocodile performance always carries some risks for a crocodile trainer.

The shows are performed every day, a few times a day, and below is the shows schedule copied from the Phuket Zoo’s web site:

Monkey Shows:     09.00, 12.00, 14.30 and 16.45 hrs.
Crocodile Shows:   09.45, 12.45, 15.15 and 17.30 hrs.
Elephant Shows:    10.30, 13.30 and 16.00 hrs.

The Aquarium

There is also an amazing aquarium at the zoo, with a very amazing entrance that is made like a huge crocodile’s mouth. So actually when you walk into the aquarium, you’re actually walking through the crocodile’s throat. There are a lot of fish in the aquarium inside beautifully decorated fish tanks. Apart from fish, there are also turtles, frogs, crabs, lizards, giant snakes, nocturnal birds and animals. You can also see the displays of seashells and fishing equipment showing local and imported fish catching techniques.

The Bird Park

Another place that you should not miss in the Phuket Zoo is the Bird Park full of local species and species of birds from all over the world. The wonderful thing about the Bird Park is that the animals are not in cages, but they are let free in the aviary. The birds are free to flight in the aviary and because of that they also breed naturally there.

The Orchid Garden

Another beautiful and relaxing place in the Phuket Zoo is the Orchid Garden. Thousands of Dendrobium and Vanda hybrid orchids in many different colors can be seen there. There are also many other beautiful plants there, like thousands of Bromeliad plants of over one hundred species and hybrids.

If you are hungry or thirsty, there are plenty of stands in the zoo that sell water, soft drinks, beer and ice cream.

If you plan to go to the Phuket Zoo, don’t forget to take a camera with you. One of the attractions of the zoo is a rare opportunity to take some photos with the zoo’s animals.

The zoo is only 20 minutes away from Avista Phuket Resort & Spa. Perfect for families, this is a place that can challenge your perception of life on earth.

Phuket is very famous and popular because of its beautiful beaches and sea. But there are many more things to see and do in Phuket than relaxing on the beach and in the sea. There is something for everybody to do on this beautiful island.

Check Out our Phuket Resort

There are so many things to do on in Phuket that it is even difficult for me to decide what I should start with. In Phuket you can go sightseeing and visit a lot of beautiful, interesting and fun places. There are different shows in Phuket like a stunt show shown at The Phuket Stunt Show every night. Fans of Thai Boxing, also known as Muay Thai can watch it at the stadium at the crossing of Bangla Road and Rath-U-Thit Road at no cost.

The other great and the most recommended places to visit are:

The Simon Cabaret

There is a very popular and very entertaining transvestite show at Simon Cabaret. It is located on the road to Patong Beach and it is considered by many people as one of the best in Thailand.

Phuket FantaSea

Phuket FantaSea is another place where you can have lots of fun and see many interesting and exciting things. It is the most popular animal and leisure park in Thailand, and is also home to a very original cultural theme complex. There are many different shows to see. There is a very interesting theater called “The Palace of the Elephants”, which beautiful creation was inspired by the ancient stone palace of the pre-Sukhothai era. It is also the biggest permanent show facility in Asia, with three thousand seats available.

Also the biggest in Asia is The Golden Kinnaree Buffet Restaurant. Kinnarees are mystical creatures and when you eat at the restaurant you are served by them. If you think I’m just joking, you must go there and see for yourself.

Inside The Golden Kinnaree Buffet Restaurant is located Suriyamas Seafood Buffet Restaurant which is famous for its gourmet seafood buffet. In both Phuket FantaSea’s restaurants you can find both Thai and international types of cuisine. In the private area of the Golden Kinnaree Buffet Restaurant you can also find vegetarian, vegan and halal food every day.

Dino Park Mini Golf

The Dino Park Mini Golf is a great place for a family night out. It is such a unique and interesting place within a fun environment that even people like me, who don’t like playing golf, like to go there and play it. There is an 18-hole golf course with authentic scale replicas of prehistoric creatures. You can really see there how the prehistoric world looked. You can play there near a primeval swamp, in a lava cave, next to moving and roaring impressive dinosaurs, under a 12-meter waterfall, and beneath an erupting volcano. It is really the must sea place in Phuket, whether you like playing golf or not.

There are many more interesting places to visit and to do in Phuket and you can find more information on our website.
